Fleet Old Church, Dorset, England

In 1824 a huge storm swept across Chesil Beach flooding the land behind it and destroying much of the church in the small village of Fleet. All that remains is the chancel. A new church was built a few years later and further inland.
Fleet is renowned as the location for J Meade Faulkner’s famous novel all about smuggling, Moonfleet.
This photograph, a 35 mm slide, was taken some time in the 1980s. The purple tinge is an effect of the film stock used. The textured appearance was produced when the original slide was rephotographed for this series. I wanted to a textured, almost painterly look to create a nostalgic feel to the images.
