From the sea to the city

A tree on horizon. In the foregroud a field of ripening maize. In the background, a blue sky with a few white clouds drifting by

Sometimes I have ridden to the end of the road and looked out upon the sea. In July 2023 I went the other way. After holidaying near the North Norfolk coast I cycled back into Norwich to catch the train home.

You can view the route I took on Komoot.

Here are a few of the photographs I took along the way, from the wind turbines off Weybourne Beach and the old machinery parked up on the shingle, past crops ripening in the fields near Holt and along shady lanes.

Part of the route took me along an old railway line that used to run into Norwich. Along the way I came upon a preserved railway station at Reepham complete with sidings and rolling stock.

Much of the track was in a cutting or behind hedgerows cutting it off from the countryside around. At one point, though, it opened out and I came upon this tree growing in a field of ripening maze.

Taking the slow road home was a more pleasant way to finish a holiday!
