A few photographs taken on a cycle ride taken in early 2024 on a cycle ride to Hatfield Forest, Essex. There had been heavy rain the night before but as the day wore on the clouds began to break to let through a sight of the sun.

On a country lane in Essex a few miles south east of Chelmsford a lych gate stands amongst the trees. Behind the lych gate is an almost uniform set of gravestones which reveal a tragic story, but also a story of passion and devoted caring.

Today a short reflection upon the sea
On this day 17th March
Today’s photograph was taken on this day two years ago. At that time I was recovering from a broken collarbone so my explorations were confined to train assisted rambles. This one involved a train ride to Leigh on Sea in Essex and than a hike across some fields to the castle. Building began in 1215 and it was refortified during the Hundred Wars Year. In Georgian times the towers were used by customs men to keep a look out for smugglers up the Thames estuary below.
